Transcript
Show notes

In this episode of Naturopathic Futures, we sit down with Western herbalist, educator, researcher, and long-standing advocate for the naturopathic profession, Elizabeth Greenwood.

With more than three decades of experience in clinical practice, education, professional leadership, and herbal medicine, Elizabeth shares her journey into naturopathy, the mentors who shaped her thinking, and her passion for preserving the traditional wisdom that sits alongside modern scientific understanding.

Together, we explore the role of herbal energetics in contemporary practice, the importance of treating the individual rather than the diagnosis, and why maintaining the unique identity of naturopathy is essential for the future of the profession.

In this episode, we discuss:

  • The foundations of Western herbal energetics and why this knowledge remains relevant today
  • The importance of balancing scientific evidence with traditional herbal wisdom
  • Why protocol-driven prescribing can overlook the complexity of individual patients
  • The risk of losing valuable naturopathic modalities such as iridology, aromatherapy, and hydrotherapy
  • Elizabeth's vision for a strong, independent, and registered naturopathic profession

This conversation offers valuable insights for practitioners, students, and anyone interested in the history, philosophy, and future direction of naturopathy and Western herbal medicine.
